MatchaLine: Privacy Policy
MatchaLine is a guide to specialty matcha cafes in Los Angeles with crowdsourced wait times. This policy describes what data the app collects, how it's used, and your rights.
What we collect
- Email address. Used only for sign-in (we send you a magic link or a one-time code). Stored by our authentication provider, Supabase.
- Username (you choose). Shown publicly next to your posts and reviews.
- Profile picture (optional, you upload). Shown publicly next to your posts and reviews.
- Photos you post and their captions. Public, shown with your username; deleted when you delete the post or your account.
- Wait reports you submit. Stored with your account. If you delete your account, your wait reports are kept but disassociated from your identity (see Deleting your account below).
- Reviews you write. Stored with your account; deleted when you delete your account.
- Comments you write and posts you like. Public, shown with your username; deleted when you delete them or your account.
- Reports and blocks you submit. Stored privately to support moderation; deleted when you delete your account.
- Cafes you save. Stored privately to your account; deleted when you delete your account.
- Approximate device location, if you grant the permission. Used only on your device to sort and display cafes by distance. Your location is never transmitted to our servers or any third party.
What we don't collect
- Your precise location history.
- Any data from other apps.
- Contacts, calendar, microphone, or camera roll without a specific action you take (e.g., choosing a profile picture from your library).
How we use your data
- To run the app: show you cafes, let you save them, report waits, write reviews, and share photos.
- To compute community wait patterns. Wait reports are aggregated by cafe and hour-of-day to show "typical waits". The aggregate doesn't expose who reported what.
- To keep the feed safe. We use your reports and blocks to review and remove objectionable content (see our Community Guidelines).
- To diagnose crashes via Sentry. If the app crashes, we receive a technical report describing the error (no personal content).
Who processes your data

We don't sell or rent your personal information to third parties.
Your rights
- View your data: your posts, saved cafes, reviews, and wait reports are visible to you inside the app.
- Update your data: edit your username, avatar, and reviews, and delete your posts, from inside the app.
- Deleting your account: Profile → Account → Delete account. This permanently removes your profile, avatar, posts (including their photos), comments, likes, saved cafes, reviews, and your reports and blocks. Your wait reports are kept but disassociated from your identity so the community pattern data remains accurate.
Children
MatchaLine is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe we have, please contact us.
Changes
We may update this policy. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect the most recent change.
